Keep Windows updating automatically

Why this matters. Most successful attacks use weaknesses that already have a fix. The fix just hasn't been installed yet. Windows Update installs Microsoft's monthly security fixes. Restarting when it asks is part of the job: many updates only take effect after a restart.

Know when a PC is too old

Windows 10 stopped getting free security updates in October 2025. If this PC still runs Windows 10, upgrade it to Windows 11 if it's eligible, or plan to replace it.

Why does restarting matter?

Many updates only take effect after a restart. An installed-but-not-restarted fix isn't protecting you yet.
