Turn on Backup by Google One

5 min · essential
Why this matters. If your phone is lost, broken or stolen, a backup lets a new phone pick up where the old one left off. Android backs up app data, messages, call history, settings and (with Google Photos) your photos to your Google Account. Everyone gets 15 GB free across Google services.

Open Backup

Open Settings, tap Google, then All services, then under Backup and restore tap Backup. Menu names vary a little by phone maker; searching Settings for 'Backup' also works.
